Die Fledermaus - Thank you so much, the reduction was quite wonderful, and perfect for our venue.

Die Walküre. From the performance at the Lech Festival, 2016

I had the pleasure of hearing a performance of Francis Griffin’s orchestral arrangement of Act 1 of Wagner’s "Die Walküre" at the Lech Classic Festival 2016. Although it was technically a "reduction", one never had the feeling that one was being shortchanged. Wagner was present; it was absolutely his voice, in the full entirety of his musical language. The singers in this performance were of the highest order, but the timbre of the orchestra also contributed to the impression that the village of Lech was right up there next to Bayreuth.

Otello. Francis Griffin’s reduction of the orchestral score calls for just 14 musicians... it proved astonishingly convincing - and not just in the more intimate, transparent moments.

Die Fledermaus. Your wonderful orchestration was a major asset to our production. Thank you so much for the use of it. I found it a brilliant reduction of the original and worked extremely well.

Rigoletto. As to the reduction it sounded terrific and, given that this was a first go round, was remarkably problem free. And I will be happy to recommend your work. Making a good reduction is no small feat and this one was terrific.

Francis Griffin’s reduced opera orchestrations perfectly fit the venues, singers and companies that I work with. The parts are carefully prepared and our players like playing from them. The result is great and greatly appreciated by our audiences.

I always enjoy playing arrangements from ReducedOperaOrchestrations.info; even when playing notes originally written for other instruments they are sympathetically transcribed and fit well on the horn.

Francis Griffin’s reductions are first-rate. We used his reduction of La Boheme which is perfect for smaller venues and orchestras, and we commissioned a reduction of Die Walküre. The commission turned out better than we could possibly have imagined, and we anticipate using Griffin’s reductions whenever we can.

I have played a number of operas with orchestrations by ReduceOperaOrchestrations.info. The parts are well laid out with appropriate page turns, and the composer’s intentions are always respected. When a change is made it is always sensitive to the instrument and the music; the sound of the orchestra is remarkably full. They are a joy to play.

In the past we used a full orchestra, we reduced to 17 for Lucia di Lammermoor this year, both for fiscal and design purposes. The fact that I heard not one negative comment about the orchestral size and sound from an audience member, board member, or media critic is testament to the fact that it all worked well.
